Librarian foible/quirk? or is everyone like this?
By studying the hair styles and make - up I'm making a stab at very early 1950s for some of them.
Also the names given to the patterns are a bit telling.
On the men's patterns we have Norman, Frank, Eric, Vic and Denis.
The women's patterns are named Rowena, Carol, Cynthia, Laurie, Grace, Sally and Vayle.
The babies? Janet, Marilyn, Susan, Diana and Chickadee!
(these photos have taken 40 minutes to load so I'm giving up and only posting three of them....)
Are current patterns named Mia, Ethan, Jack and Madison?
Nice! I love the little red jacket one (1950s). During the 1960s and 70s Patons did date their books, it's in code, inside the back cover 4/66 for april 1966 for example. I sell vintage knitting books on eBay, love them!
ReplyDeleteLove old pattern books!
ReplyDeleteI hope there were never any patterns named Krystel - in any of the vile spellings used.
ReplyDeleteAre you following me? You sweetie!
ReplyDeleteI still have a few of Mum's knitting patterns from the 60s, kept purely for sentimental value; I don't knit, so the instructions may as well be in Armenian. In fact, Armenian would probably be easier to decipher for me.
