I filled little vases with everything flowering in the garden today: middle of winter and bleak but a surprising number of things in bloom.
Didn't pick any hellebores ( and there are lots) because I've never worked out a way to have them inside in a vase without them instantly flopping due to the warmth. Two of my three baby camellias have flowers ( the third is on notice to produce a flower, or else) but they look best floated in a bowl and I'm not in the mood for floaty flowers.
Reds and oranges: abutilon x 2, grevillea,calendula.
Purples and whites: wallflower (cheiranthus), primula, pelargonium, happy wanderer (hardenbergia), native rosemary ( westringia), salvia.
Yellows and whites: daphne, abutilon, paper white daffs, and something that could be a snowflake, but equally - could be onion weed.
Lovely. And that is assuredly a snowdrop. Your garden is way ahead of ours. Our daphne isn't even really in bud yet. The hyacinths are providing perfume in the interim though.
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh every time you do a "winter garden" post. You're comment "middle of winter and bleak but a surprising number of things in bloom" is funny because you've got more luscious bouquets than i can manage right now and we're in the height of a magnificent summer! Right now I've got a couple of varieties of black-eyed susans, a few lagging tiger lilies, some floppy yellow outhouse flowers, morning glories, a few sweet peas, and two solitary roses. Oh, and I found a lonely calendula yesterday. No idea where that came from. My bouquet from my winter garden includes... nothing. The snow melts as soon as I bring it into the house! Cheers, cd.
