the mid-winter vegie garden

Waldo thornless blackberry leaf

There is nothing growing in the vegie garden except for thriving herbs. Not raining (!) today so we've been out in it, fiddling around. It is all a big neglected mess but I'm going to post a few before and after photos.

Before: big fat mess

more mess

We weeded and dug over, moved many of the plants to clear space for new beds/planting.
I divided all the healthy but not very productive strawberry plants which are now planted in the rose garden as ground cover. I made 12 plants from 4 clumps so we'll see if they do better with more sun.

Some of the plants that were moved: parsley, tarragon, blackberries, calendula, strawberries, a ratty lavender, rhubarb.... I think that's all.

I'm going in search of a Just Joey rose this week: I ripped out the Black boy roses which were a waste of money and space so there is room for at least one.

Nice week on the cards, including coffee with a new bride one day, and  a visit/lunch with some friends another day - one has some stitching on show at the "Royal Melbourne" exhibition at City Gallery at the Town Hall.

I have pie innards cooking in the oven for Jamie Oliver's Steak, Guinness and cheese pie so can now escape for an hour or so with Howards End.
