oh granola

I made this granola yesterday: it's the third granola or muesli recipe I've tried making  this year and also the best ( I think ). I eat porridge and fruit for breakfast nearly every single day of the year but was rushing and late for work today so had this instead : delicious. The recipe is from Petrea King's Food for life cookbook in which every recipe is unbelievably healthy and when you make and eat them you glow a little bit brighter with health, I swear.
(then you eat a Peanut Butter cup for afternoon tea which your daughter gives you and the glow dims a bit, oh well...)

As usual, I fiddled with the recipe a little, because I am a lazy cook and skip steps when I can.

Crunchy Granola
2 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/4 cup raw almonds, chopped
1/2cup raw walnuts, roughly chopped
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup chopped dried apricots ( I used dried cranberries instead)
1/3 cup sultanas

Preheat oven to 180 C and line 2 trays with baking paper.
Combine all the dry ingredients.
Warm maple syrup and honey together in the microwave oven and pour over the dry mix.
Toss it all together, spread on the two trays, bake for 20-30 minutes until evenly golden. You stir it up every 5 minutes so it cooks evenly. Allow to cool,store in an airtight container.

I would love to know if anyone has an even better recipe.(I've also made Nigella's Andy's Fairfield granola, and Michelle Bridges' muesli.


  1. I've made granola before and on the dry stuff (before it goes in the oven) add some honey and ground cinnamon. Mmmmmm. And it smells beautiful too.

  2. I have no granola recipes for you (I'm an egg gal) but I had to comment on your bunnykins dish - I have the same one from when I was a baby. Mine has a picture of the bunnies on a picnic. It looks so lovely in the picture that I may try making your granola just so I can put it in my bunnkins bowl

  3. Chia seeds are a good healthy addition too.
