I should have explained in that earlier post that "Craft camp" is what the attendees call these long weekends at Sewjourn. Camp consists of an extremely comfortable house that sleeps nine: ten, actually, if one sleeps on the couch, and a fully fitted out separate studio set up for any kind of making.
Everyone makes stuff: clothes, quilts, bunting, knitted things, crocheted things. I am the dabbler/dilettante? of the group - I did however, weave in my shawl ends so that is FINISHED, knitted half a dishcloth, started on some pompons, and zhushed up some old hand towels with some suffolk puffs made from beautiful Liberty fabric.
It is quite an experience to hang out with nine other such like-minded souls.
I love the way visting the local op-shop or those in the next little town are unremarked on activities (doesn't EVERYONE visit op-shops as part of a weekend away?). People read, nap, have baths, talk a lot, share out the meal preparation and clean up like we have lived in a share house together forever, rather than just that we come together once a year. I love the collective completion of the crossword around the craft tables, the endless cups of tea, the laughs, the sharing of stories.
Most of the photos speak for themselves but I just wanted to explain two of them.
The lunch table shows what Eleanor prepared for Saturday lunch. Every meal was wonderful but this one was so fresh and pretty too.
The cut out quilt is a wagga Jenny was making. Jenny is not a blogger so I asked permission to share this. They are felted squares from op-shop jumpers cut up to make a quilt. This was so beautiful I had to take photos to remember it, and how it was done.
All these "excellent women"/fellow campers have blogs - except Jenny: read their excellent blogs here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
One more thing, that dishcloth was supposed to be moss stitch. I'm sorry, but whoever invented that stitch is just a sadistic cruel monster. Or they have a weird sense of humour.
It was a wonderful weekend. I miss you!!

What a wonderful weekend. Productive and fun-filled days with laughter and good food thrown in. Sounds blissful.
ReplyDeleteLovely round-up of a fab weekend. I must just tell you that one of my fave smily moments was thinking back on a snatch of conversation I overheard you having about occasionally ticking people off in your library, and I thought to myself I bet people never actually mind when you tick them off, because you'd do it in such a delightfully kind, reasonable and almost inclusive way.
ReplyDeleteGreat round up. I'm very pleased you got a good shot of the wagga as mine came out blurry and all fluorescent red somehow, and I want a visual reminder of it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming LG. You may only come once a year but you make it a treat for us all. (Here's hoping the dates next year suit you a little better and you can come more than once perhaps).
You are lucky to have such a great tribe close by - well worth the visit by the looks of things.
ReplyDeleteWendy - one flew from Sydney and one from Adelaide and one drove a long way from country Victoria... the rest of us are spread out over Melb - which makes it special to get to do this!
ReplyDeletePlease express to Jenny that I am in love with the Wagga.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a very luxurious form of camping isn't it? So glad you could come. Your casserole was delicious and I find myself wondering whether I could find a way to make it that the vegetarian didn't mind. Anyways, great roundup of a wonderful weekend, thank you for being part of it. xJ
